Dooley Funeral Home

In 1857, Schilb & Sons Furniture & Undertaking was established in

Antwerp by Andrew Schilb. Upon Andrew’s passing, his wife, Margaret

attended Boston’s Egyptian School of Embalming and became the first

female licensed embalmer. Margaret was not the only one to make history

in her family. Olive Schilb graduated from then the Cincinnati College

of Embalming.

The family profession was passed through the generations from J. Ray and

Robert to Andrew J. III and Tom from 1945 to 1961. During this time,

they also operated funeral homes in Woodburn, Indiana and Paulding &

Hicksville, Ohio. Tom’s son, Walter, worked with his father until taking

the reigns himself in 1968.

Walter was the last Schilb to own the funeral home transferring it to

William & Sandra Pauley in 1978. The Pauley’s served the community until

1993, when Shawn & Michelle Dooley moved to Antwerp from Philadelphia.

In late 2007, our new facility was started in Payne, Ohio. An open house

was held April 6, 2008 to celebrate our new facility.

Shawn & Michelle are proud of the funeral home’s unique heritage and are

honored to serve the families that trust them with such sensitive

details at the most difficult time in their lives.

In 2020, Matthew Dooley will join us full time as a fifth generation

funeral director in the Dooley family after he completes his education

at Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.

We are not only proud of our heritage but proud to offer contemporary

services including, pre-planning, personalized burial and cremation

ceremonies, celebrant ceremonies, memorial videos and Life Stories.

Please feel free to call us at 419-258-5684 or 419-263-0000 to discuss

how we can serve you and your family when you need us most.

The MAC Gym

The MAC Gymnasium has grown into the premier sporting business in Antwerp, OH.  Teams, individuals and athletic enthusiasts travel to Antwerp weekly to participate in organized leagues, practices or general events, all hosted at the gymnasium.  Currently leagues are offered for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and indoor soccer.  Numerous other team practices and individual workouts take place weekly as well.

The facility was originally built in 1972, hosting the Antwerp Local School.  The school left the site in December 2004.  Purchased for an assisted living complex in 2005, the “New Gym”, as called by the Antwerp community, was a mere by-product of the sale and sat idle until fall 2011.   Since then literally hundreds of students and adults have been served by the facility.  The gym is also the host site for the new gymnastics business Northwest Ohio Cheer and Tumble.  Please feel free to check out the website www.macgymohio.com for more details or to reach out with questions.
